The 2022 Welsh Curriculum - Picture News supporting the Four Purposes
Ethical, informed citizens
Expose children to a range of current issues – national and global - including political, religious, cultural, environmental, social, moral, spiritual. Give children opportunities to celebrate diversity, exercise their human and democratic responsibilities and rights, form their own views whilst respecting the views of others.
Healthy, confident individuals
Allow children to develop confidence and resilience. If they want to make a difference to our world, they have to have the confidence to speak out. They must develop resilience. If at first, they do not succeed, develop ideas further, do not give up!
Ambitious, capable learners
Give children opportunities to develop learning further through news stories that inspire them, allowing children to take control, set themselves high standards, ask questions, research then explain and communicate their ideas.
Enterprising, creative contributors
Opportunities are given to allow children to express their ideas and emotions. As the news stories are current, children can use their voice to bring about change. They can give their energy and skills so that other people will benefit.
