We are so excited to share that Picture News, in collaboration with 2041 Schools and Robert Swan OBE, hosted a once-in-a-lifetime live broadcast to over 1 million children from Antarctica! Robert Swan is the first person in history to walk both the North and South Poles, and is well-known for his Antarctica advocacy and adventures. We were also joined by Jenny Cooke, who founded the geography resource company, Oddizzi, and the Antarctica charity, 2041 Schools! Streaming 600 miles away from the South Pole live from the base at Union Glacier, Robert Swan shared his stories from the ice, the importance of protecting our planet’s frozen continent, and inspired young people everywhere to become champions for Antarctica. He introduced us to Teddy, his 40-year old teddy which was the first teddy to be in Antarctica, having joined Robert on his first expedition to the continent in the 1980s. Schools saw breathtaking views from the ice continent, utilising innovative technology to join live. We then heard from Antarctica herself, voiced by Joanna Lumley, showing more stunning views and describing the dramatic landscapes. The assembly ended with an engaging live question and answer session from children watching live with Robert. Jenny from 2041 School shared how schools can become Champions of Antarctica.
