Inter Faith Week 2025 is coming up, providing an exciting opportunity for schools and communities across the UK to come together, learn about each other, and celebrate diversity. This annual event is designed to promote understanding among people of all faiths and beliefs, including those who are non-religious. What is Inter Faith Week? Inter Faith Week 2025 takes place from Sunday 9th November to Sunday 16th November. The theme for this year is ‘Community: Together We Serve’. Throughout the week, local groups, schools, and various faith and belief communities join in activities that foster communication and friendship. The goal is to highlight shared values and recognize the positive contributions people make to their communities, no matter their beliefs. The week is packed with engaging events like talks, walks, parties, and learning activities. These opportunities encourage everyone—even those who don’t follow a religion—to participate and learn more about the many different beliefs that enrich the UK’s culture. The Aims of Inter Faith Week Inter Faith Week 2025 shines a spotlight on the good that happens when people of different beliefs work together. The theme ‘Community: Together We Serve’ is about cooperation, mutual respect, and strengthening the bonds between individuals from all backgrounds. By learning about each other’s faiths—and the values and traditions they include—everyone gains a greater appreciation for both the differences and the commonalities that unite us. The week is an invitation to engage in open communication, celebrate what makes us unique, and recognize what brings us together. Why Do We Have Inter Faith Week? According to Ms Inderpal Kaur Singh, Faith & Community Engagement Officer at the British Sikh Consultative Forum, "UK Inter Faith Week offers a vital opportunity to celebrate the rich diversity of our nation, deepen understanding between different traditions, and strengthen the bonds of friendship and trust that unite us." While many communities embrace diversity all year round, Inter Faith Week provides a focused time for reflection, learning, and celebration. It helps even more people understand the importance of working together and building friendships across faiths and beliefs. Root Values Tree Activity One engaging classroom activity during Inter Faith Week is the Root Values Tree. This activity helps children explore the values that support our actions and decisions. The roots of the tree represent shared beliefs—such as kindness, honesty, respect, and cooperation—that help a community grow strong. Pupils can add their own values to the roots and then write or draw positive actions on the leaves, showing how those values come to life, for example: “I will show kindness by helping a new person.” This tree becomes a symbol of how shared values help a community flourish all year long, not just during Inter Faith Week. Mutual Respect and Tolerance At its core, Inter Faith Week is about increasing understanding and building respect among people with different backgrounds. By learning from one another, communities become stronger and more inclusive. These conversations are essential in schools, workplaces, and beyond to ensure everyone feels valued and able to express their beliefs freely. Respect and tolerance are fundamental values that support a healthy, diverse community. The week is a reminder to listen, appreciate, and learn from each other, making space for everyone’s beliefs and experiences. Ideas for Classroom Discussions Inter Faith Week is a perfect time to start meaningful conversations in assembly or class. Here are some discussion prompts: What does the word ‘community’ mean to you? What makes a group of people a community? If everyone in a community has different beliefs, does it still count as being together? Why or why not? What does it mean to serve your community? Why is helping others significant in many beliefs? What can we learn from other people’s stories, even if their beliefs are different from ours? How does listening to people from different backgrounds make a community stronger? Would a community be able to solve problems better if people have different experiences and beliefs? How can we celebrate the range of beliefs in our school or broader community? Carrying out the Root Values Tree activity together is a supportive way to reflect on shared values and positive actions within your class or school. Reflecting on Community Inter Faith Week teaches us that community reaches far beyond our immediate surroundings or usual groups of friends. We are part of many different communities—our school, our neighborhood, our country, and groups defined by both religious and non-religious beliefs. Celebrating Inter Faith Week helps us recognize the value in diversity and encourages us all to be kinder, more understanding, and more active in the communities we belong to.
