Children's Mental Health Week is back for 2025, from 3rd to 9th February! This year's theme is 'Know Yourself, Grow Yourself', with a focus on self-awareness and resilience to navigate our way through life. The Picture News team have been busy creating some useful resources for you to explore in school this week and beyond.
Picture News Live Assembly for Children's Mental Health Week!
Click here to access the assembly recording. Hosted by Katie and Jo, we welcomed schools from all over the UK to discuss wellbeing and share ideas for how we can look after our mental health. We explored how learning about the world around us can contribute to mental health. Follow the link above to catch up on the session, and receive the presentation slides for your use in school. The assembly is suitable for primary children aged 5 - 11 (and their teachers!)
Special Resource - How can learning about the world help us?
Click here to receive the resource. This free resource supports assemblies, classroom discussions and displays. We highlight how looking at what's happening in the news can teach us important skills and lessons, to help us stay resilient and navigate life's ups and downs. The resource is useful for primary children aged 5 - 11, and includes discussion questions for effective conversations with peers.
Emotion Vocabulary Grid
If you're a Picture News school, head to the Useful Resources tab found in your Members Area, to access the Emotion Vocabulary Grid! This resource is also included in your weekly Picture News packs. The resource supports emotion literacy, and helps children articulate how a news story makes them feel. Developing emotional vocabulary is a skill that can positively contribute to many areas of children's lives. Having safe, open discussions, where children feel confident to share their feelings (and empathise with others' emotions), is always important. Why not focus on this in particular during Children's Mental Health Week?
Share your Children's Mental Health Week celebrations with us!
We love to see how schools bring Picture News resources to life. Share your resource work, assemblies, displays, thoughts and ideas via social media!
