It’s back! The Picture News Christmas Campaign is here for 2024. We’re challenging every school to create Origami Peace Doves, to be united by a hope for peace. The 2024 theme responds to the various unsettled events that have occurred around the world this year. Wars in Europe and the Middle East, political and economic troubles, and social unrest in the UK over the summer have been in the news. These events have caused upset, fear and division for many people. So, the campaign is open to all classes and pupils of all ages, and encourages children to share their hope for peace around the world using Origami Doves. The theme builds on 2023’s campaign, Peace Chains, as a reminder that having hope for peace can be ongoing and resilient in the face of adversity. Why doves? Within many cultures and religions around the world, the dove is a symbol of peace. It is a white-plumed pigeon, which for many people, represents hope, renewal, freedom and compassion. What can you do with your doves? Each dove can be a unique representation of what peace means to each child. Children can consider and reflect what peace looks like, feels like and sounds like to them within their dove creations. The doves can make for inspiring displays and decorations, perhaps in classrooms or communal areas of school. Request the campaign template here.
